Little daylight

Despite waiting in thunderstorms for the bus and not being able to escape the smell of urine on the train, my morning commute has been a little sweeter thanks to ‘Where’d you go, Bernadette?’ by Maria Semple. Semple used to write for Arrested Development, which is very evident in this novel. If you like stories with an unconventional structure and quick wit, you’ll love this book.

“Grace said, “I’m bored.” “Yeah,” Bee mimicked, “I’m bored.” Bernadette pulled the car over, took off her seat belt, and turned around. “That’s right,” she told the girls. “You’re bored. And I’m going to let you in on a little secret about life. You think it’s boring now? Well, it only gets more boring. The sooner you learn it’s on you to make life interesting, the better off you’ll be.”

    You look so pretty.

    • Gracias madre.

Is that really your mom? If so, how freaking sweet! 🙂

        • Yes 🙂 She’s been my faithful reader and biggest supporter since the beginning.

  • I love that nail polish color, and I have to concur with Lydia that you look really great! Are you wearing lipstick in these pictures? Would love to know the shade (unless you’re not

Super cute outfit! I love the black tiered dress, perfect casual choice for the summer esp when paired with the denim jacket! Summertime is just perfect for catching up on your reading list– esp reading outside on the green grass! I was thinking about buying Where’d You Go Bernadette (I heard it was good) and you’re motivating me to get it! But I think it’s best if I finish the 5 other books I’ve got on my e-reader first haha…

    xx Debbie

    • Yeah, I had no idea this book was on people’s radar until I started seeing it pop up on Instagram. It’s a great funny summer read, even though the book is about vacationing in Antarctica 🙂

I love your watch, it’s super pretty. I just got a similar Michael Kors one in Rose Gold. I’m like obsessed!

    • I wear this beauty every day. I can’t imagine wearing any other watch. It would feel like cheating!

    You look awesome babe
    I love your jacket

I love how you write. Funny stuff! I’ve never taken a public transportation since I moved to Florida 11 years ago. I would be so terrified riding a bus or a train.
Anyway, super cute dress 🙂 I usually also partner dresses with a jean jacket for more casual look.

    • Taking public transportation is definitely the most interesting part of my week days. Besides the occasional whiffs of body odor and aggressive drug users looking for a quick buck, you meet some pretty interesting people. It also makes me feel tough…? Like, bump in to me one more time and I will make sure you avoid the 8:35 train out of fear of facing me again kind of tough. You have to have thick skin.

On a lighter note, yes, dresses and jean jackets are a classic look haha.

  • Love the lighting in these pics and you look very sweet. Ack the smells on public transport are emphasized in the heat…

I like that quote, on point yet caring, though at the same time I think it’s a peculiar and somewhat telling characteristic of people and the societies/lifestyles we’ve created in which we can become bored to the point of consistent apathy when we live on such an abundant and awe inspiring planet.
