Morning Ink turns 2 – Cambridge Satchel Giveaway

This blog turned 2 today, and I can’t believe I’ve committed to something this long. It’s still such a baby, and will probably never mature much (just like its creator), which is good because I am sticking to what I like.

I had a long buzzed Skype conversation the other night about successful bloggers, and what appeals to the businesses and women in my city and country. I sometimes feel like I would be more appealing if I incorporated trendy clothing, had vibrant photos and used hashtags on Instagram such as #SundayFunday and #obsessed. Not to say the people who do these things are silly, I just know it’s relatable and fun for bloggers. But I like my recycled wardrobe, faded photos and calling myself out for taking staged photos on staircases for Instagram. Get ready to want to punch me in the jaw, but this is my style. Deprecation, and the same jacket I’ve been wearing for 3 years.

Endure these photos and stay until the end for a little giveaway.

So yes, I adore this satchel. It’s not a secret considering I’ve worn it here, here, here, and here. It’s the nicest thing I’ve ever bought myself, and the company has such a charming history. Considering how much I adore my bag, I would like to give one away. This one is a much smaller version of mine, but more functional as an everyday crossbody.

At twilight.

I recently posted on Instagram that it is impossible to wear jackets in the summer in Houston, but here I am doing it anyway. It’s not so bad when the sun goes down…and when you ignore the bra and back sweat.

Dress: Gap
Jacket: American Eagle
Flats: Payless
Bag: Cambridge Satchel Co.
Necklace: Forever 21
Ring: H&M

This jacket and satchel are two of my favorite items in my closet. I never get tired of wearing them, and they always get compliments. I need more pieces like this. I get sucked into the need to have fast fashion, when I should instead take the time and care to pick items that will survive seasons and trends.

Keep it real.

All in the thighs

I like the look of my jackets being zipped or buttoned to the neck. As someone who doesn’t go shopping regularly, I need to find ways to be creative with my wardrobe, and this is my current favorite way to wear my jackets. See a similar look here.

Jacket: Target
Dress: Pacsun
Shoes: Modcloth
Bag: Cambridge Satchel Co.
Socks: Forever 21
Watch: Michael Kors

Over-the-knee socks are tricky for thick-legged gals like myself. I found the best way to get them from rolling past my knee was to pull them as far as they can stretch without much pull, and then folding down a couple inches of the top until it rests on my knee. It’s motivation to keep up my fitness routine, but I still like the look. Very Babymetal inspired, not going to lie.

Remembering the days that felt so long

One of my favorite parts about going back to school was buying supplies and shopping for new clothes. I always wasted my mother’s money on graphic tees, hoodies and jeans, but it was fun planning the person I was going to be that year.

If I could go back, I would live in transitional items such as this silk dress and varsity cardigan. The dress can easily be warmed up with a leather jacket and booties, and a long cardigan is easy to throw on over an over-sized tee and skinny jeans.

I am severely in love with this dress. Though it’s silk, it sits heavy on the body and is perfect for windy days.

To be a lady

Let’s have a picnic on my lap.

Skirt: Banana Republic
Flats: Payless

Watch: Michael Kors
Necklace: American Eagle (similar)

This skirt made me feel like Viola from the movie “Monster-in-Law.” I was one pleat away from straight up smashing someones face into a plate of petit fours.

Not really, but I swished around today feeling like a damn lady.

What item of clothing do you have that makes you feel ultra feminine? Or psychotic, I’m not here to judge.

Opposite side of the sea

It rained today. I’m stuck inside on the 4th of July. So much for freedom.

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans! I just ordered a pizza, have a fridge full of beer and three seasons of Game of Thrones to finish, so why am I even complaining.
