A feminine fit

If there’s anything I’ve learned as a style-conscious adult, it’s that the arbitrary sizing system we have in the United States is crap and that buying clothes based on actual measurements IS KEY.

For years I obsessed over “my number.” I spent a better part of my college years thinking that I would be a much happier person if I wore clothes in the single digit numbers. I tried to squeeze into skirts and jeans that were a size smaller because it was more important to me to wear a certain number rather than something that fits.

I’m refreshing my wardrobe at the moment with more pieces that actually fit me based on my measurements, which in return make me feel more confident and put together. I’m glad eShakti asked me to review another one of their items (they were the first brand I worked with years ago!) because their mission is to outfit women in tailored clothes.

I picked this flirty dress and had the option to alter the sleeves and skirt length, but kept it as is. I now prefer dresses and skirts that hit at the knee or just below as opposed to the unflattering short skater skirts I used to cling to.

I paired it with burgundy pumps and a houndstooth crossbody for a look perfect for work, church or a dinner date.

When customizing your garment on eShakti, you can pick a standard size or put in your measurements for a custom size, as well as your height and sleeve and neckline preferences. If you’re like me and don’t own a cloth measuring tape but have a stiff tape measure in your toolbox, then I recommend using a long ribbon or string to wrap around yourself and measuring that instead.

It felt good to receive a garment in the mail that fit me right out of the box. I just spent the past few weeks sending back wedding dress after wedding dress because I couldn’t get the zipper past my back fat. This dress effortlessly slipped on and is wonderfully soft and thick for Fall and Winter. Here are some other eShakti pieces I have my eye on:

Follow the white rabbit

I secretly wish I were Zooey Deschanel.

There. I said it.

I just adore her and her hair, eyes, voice and most importantly, her clothes. I couldn’t resist this rabbit top when I saw it online at eShakti. It reminds me so much of her style. And it has rabbits. RABBITS.

I received this item from eShakti, a website that allows you to customize and tailor pieces to your measurements and personal style. This shirt was originally a tank, but I was able to have cap sleeves added, and it was altered to fit my height. Their sizes range from 0-36W, something I deeply appreciate. Fashion should not be limited to size, and I value this store’s mission to accommodate individual bodies and styles.

I highly recommend checking out eShakti and playing around with their customization features. Use the code ‘inkes’ to take 10% off your order until 07/27/14. And while you’re at it, check out their Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Social media!

Also, I have a new theme. Oooooh. Aaaahh.

Peace.
