One of my favorite summertime stories is “A&P” by John Updike. I read it in college and distinctly remember the narrator describing a girl’s breasts as “the two smoothest scoops of vanilla I had ever known were there.” It’s a funny little story, and it perfectly captures a summer day for a young guy working in a convenience store who rebels against a consumer-conditioned society for three girls in bathing suits.
But one thing that really stood out to me is the heat. The girls traipse around in bikinis and the manager reminds them that his store is not the beach.
It’s hot in Houston. Not hot like, “Oh, haha, must be summer. Let’s have lemonade,” but rather, “I want to die. I can’t breathe. Will I ever feel cool again?!” kind of hot.
This sage midi dress is the prettiest piece sitting in my closet at the moment. I fell in love with it online, and was amazed by the stellar midi dress selection at Forever 21. I’ve linked a few of my favorites in a Mavatar collection below.
The lining is soft yet heavy, and will perfectly transition into fall. If my skin wasn’t the same color as Voldemort’s I would share the beautiful back of this dress. Such a feminine little piece.
