Something old, nothing new

Layering the shawl my grandma made me over a floral dress for a warm January look.

I have one more week of being 25. When does my affinity for combat boots need to end? I mean seriously, I have similar footwear to my 14 year-old niece. She’s cool, but I put anti-aging serums on my face now and I think I’m developing arthritis from cracking my hands so much. No teenager wants to be associated with that.

Work outfit? Boring? Majority of my day is spent in work clothes, so I think it’s appropriate to start planning my fall and winter wardrobe. Haha, planning. Who am I, Cher Horowitz?

I wish.

I struggle with pencil skirts. They’re either too tight around the middle or too long if I try to size up. I prefer the mini pencil skirts, such as this one from BR. I have short legs, so I don’t feel guilty about wearing my skirt above the knee if I am covered on top. If it’s ever an issue, it’s nothing tights can’t fix.

I’ve seen other bloggers clutching to their bright summer wardrobe, but I am embracing the dark colors. Maybe it’s because Halloween is just a little over a month away, or that I have been obsessively listening to Babymetal, but I would toss all the color in my wardrobe and just wear black every day if I could. It’s mysterious.

Remembering the days that felt so long

One of my favorite parts about going back to school was buying supplies and shopping for new clothes. I always wasted my mother’s money on graphic tees, hoodies and jeans, but it was fun planning the person I was going to be that year.

If I could go back, I would live in transitional items such as this silk dress and varsity cardigan. The dress can easily be warmed up with a leather jacket and booties, and a long cardigan is easy to throw on over an over-sized tee and skinny jeans.

I am severely in love with this dress. Though it’s silk, it sits heavy on the body and is perfect for windy days.

Hello. Shooting indoors is difficult.

Jacket: Old Navy
Sweater: Gilly Hicks (similar here, only $5)
Skirt: American Eagle
Boots: Delia’s
Watch: Michael Kors
Cold: Me

This sweater makes me feel like Zooey Deschanel, or at least Jess from New Girl. I love the bow detail on the collar and it’s cut short enough to wear with circle skirts. I bought it before Gilly Hicks stopped making clothes, an unfortunate decision on their part.

Excuse me while I research how to shoot photos indoors properly without having to resort to going outside at the end of the day in super cold weather.

Have a great Sunday and thank you for reading.

Happy New Year

Oh hey! It’s a new year. My boyfriend and I welcomed 2014 by eating Ben and Jerry’s and watching multiple episodes of That 70’s Show. No regrets.

ALSO, I now have Instagram! You can click here to follow me or on my photo feed on the left side of my homepage. My username is queso_kisses. Prepare to see a lot of my dog.

Pants: J.Crew
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Purse: Forever 21 (similar here)
Necklace: Baublebar (I love this similar statement bib)
Nail Color: Revlon – Cherries in the Snow

I’ve had my eye on this necklace since Ingrid Nilsen a.k.a MissGlamorazzi on YouTube debuted it in her Baublebar collection. Even though it was released months ago, my boyfriend still surprised me with it on Christmas. It’s a new treasure.

I start my new job tomorrow! I’m extremely nervous, but also excited. Wish me luck!

Have a great January 1 and thank you for reading.

Wrapped in Grey

Dress: Old Navy (similar here)

Cardigan: Gilly Hicks (similar here)

Scarf: Gift

Shoes: Urban Outfitters

I tied the ends of this scarf together making it an instant infinity scarf. The pattern reminds me of the handkerchiefs that I saw everyone wearing in Germany when I did a study abroad program there. I still have the blue one I bought, but it seems silly to wear now. That’s what I get for following a trend.

As a side note, I baked my favorite Sparkled Ginger Cookies for a coworkers birthday tomorrow. They’re vegan and rich with spices and covered in turbinado sugar. They’re like a sweeter chewy ginger snap. They’re also extremely easy to make and bake in 10 minutes. The recipe can be found here.

Have a great Monday and thank you for reading.
