Thrift

A few posts ago I mentioned that I was a new user of the shopping app Depop, but I have redirected my allegiance to Poshmark, which is quite similar but a bit more sophisticated in my opinion. I have sold three items from my “closet” during its first month, and I am really enjoying packaging my clothes and sending them off to new homes.

Buuuuuuut I have also been shopping on the app. I justify my purchases by reminding myself that these are great deals and I am earning my money back whenever I make a sale. The Zara Trafaluc dress in these photos was a total steal for only $13. I also bought a new pair of leather Aldo flats for $20. I mean c’mon. I feel like I am just picking things out of people’s closets and leaving a tip.

Click here if you want to check out my closet. Also, be sure to follow me on Instagram to know when I post a new item, and to like, be friends and stuff. I always follow back.

I make sure to only post and sell my nicest, gently worn items, and have received 5 stars and positive reviews on all my purchases. I highly recommend selling your own items on the app if you would like to earn back some cash on clothes you don’t wear anymore. It’s such a great way to clean out your closet and make room for fall clothes.

Deuces.

Going nowhere

Red lipstick, no plans. Just me, leftover snacks from the party I threw Saturday night and six episodes of Orphan Black because I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS BACK ON.

Yeah, I’m digging the look of a shirt or jacket tied around the waist. It feels a bit 90’s grunge and is such an easy way to add more texture and shape to jeans and a t-shirt. I swear I’m wearing pants more often now that it’s hot outside, as opposed to last winter when I lived in tights and skirts and froze my ass off.

Whatever.

Timing and structure

I must subconsciously perform ancient rain rituals, because my past two outfit shoots have been wet and miserable. Houston is horribly steamy at the moment, and I can feel my summer blues creeping in. I may be wearing sandals and a sundress, but I would gladly trade them for a jacket and tights and a temperature below 80 degrees.

Watch: c/o JORD

What I wouldn’t trade is this JORD watch. It’s made of wood. Wood! I started to forget it was on my wrist because it’s so lightweight. I rarely wear my Michael Kors watch in the summer because it’s heavy and bulky, but this little treasure will pair well with summer jewelry and my more casual work outfits.

A little wood, a little tribal, a lot of heat. Can’t a girl enjoy her almond croissant and latte without simultaneously sweating and getting rained on? Get it together, Houston.

A military approach

I take my own photos with a tripod and remote. I was ecstatic when my boyfriend bought me a DSLR last Christmas, and have enjoyed learning how the heck to use it throughout the year. Now that I have developed a routine and style for my photos, I’ve been thrown a curveball. He bought me a new lens this year, which I’ve enjoyed using on my family. But taking photos today was a definite challenge.

They’re not bad. It took me 30 minutes to figure out that the best plan would be to focus the spot where I should stand instead of trying to use my remote, which can only work 10 feet away from the camera. My 85mm lens has fantastic depth, but I am going to have to change the way I shoot photos. And I don’t want to return it for ease of use because dat bokeh tho.

As for the outfit, I have a love/hate relationship with this jacket. Sometimes it makes me look strong and tall because of the cropped cut, and other times I just look like a moldy cube. Whatever, it’s warm.

Misread

One of my main objectives for this blog is to stretch my wardrobe as much as I can to show that you do not need to constantly buy new items to create outfits.

Darker sundresses can become great layering pieces, such as this one from Ruche. It was a flirty, thin dress for the summer, and is now appropriate for fall under a sweater. I may even wear it with my pixie pants and a heavy cardigan and scarf when the temperatures really drop. This is its third time on the blog, why not add a fourth? Functionality. Aw yes.

Apparently there was something really interesting going on to my right. Or I need to work on my posing. I went a good 10 minutes switching positions before I noticed an AT&T mechanic was watching from his truck.

Is it only Wednesday?
