My things are disappearing

I recently gave a few bits of furniture, books and home decor to a friend who is moving into a new home. It’s fortunate that she was in need of the things I can’t take with me when I move, but also sad to see them go.

I don’t like being attached to physical objects. I feel silly for getting emotional every time I think about throwing away this Build-A-Bear that was given to me by an ex-boyfriend from when I was a teenager, but dammit, that bear went everywhere with me. It became more than a boyfriend gift, it became a frie–…….do you hear how ridiculous I sound??

Ay, chihuahua.

Dress: Target (similar here and here)
Flats: Forever 21
Necklace: Forever 21
Ring: Ten Thousand Villages
Lips: MAC Hang-Up

I am excited about what’s to come. I am just stuck in limbo. Here are my childhood memories, here is the trashcan they’re going in, here is a new life and a blank canvas for new memories. But god, how do you let go? How do you decide what is worth remembering?

It’s like the question you ask your friends: If you could only bring five things with you to a deserted island, or only save five things from your house if it’s on fire, what would you save?

Seasons change but people don’t

Alright, we’re all getting bombarded with Valentine’s makeup tutorials in our YouTube subscription boxes and emails from our favorite stores showcasing frilly pink and red dresses as possible date night outfits. We get it.

I like Valentine’s day because it’s another day I get to eat candy. So before you eat a whole bag of heart-shaped Reese’s because they’re 70% off at Target, let’s talk makeup.

I wore this look in last Friday’s outfit post, and I love it. I kept my eyes simple but sparkly and layered on the dark red lipstick, emphasizing my cupid’s bow. This lipstick says, “I buy my own drinks.”

face

I chose this lipstick as one of my fall favorites, but I love it so much that I wanted to resurrect it for my rebellious bad asses.

I patted “Trick” on my eyelids using my finger, and swept highlight on my cheeks and down the bridge of my nose to bring light to my face.

Are you flying solo this Valentine’s Day or do you have a significant other? My boyfriend and I haven’t made plans yet, so heart-shaped Reese’s are probably my reality. No complaints.

Cold

Hello. I’m freezing.

The blog Substance AND Style is hosting a fun “Dress Up Friday” theme with a few other blogs. I was graciously invited to include my own outfit, so here it is. It may be below freezing outside, but I’m in heels!

Dress: Forever 21 (similar here)
Blazer: Macy’s
Necklace: Forever 21
Lips: MAC “Hang-Up”

This dress is short. I have no choice but to wear tights with it to spare the public. I paired it with my favorite (and warm) blazer that I picked up in the juniors section of Macy’s because I have age acceptance issues.

I love statement necklaces and I need more of them. I was always weary of having a chandelier around my neck, but now I see the appeal. You can pair them with a $5 dress you plucked off the clearance rack and KAPOW. You have a nice outfit to sit at home in. Just me? Just me.

Have a fancy Friday and thank you for reading!

Today’s Makeup

I just love wearing pink on my face, okay?!

From left to right: Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, Covergirl Lipstick in Dazzle, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lust, Smashbox Photo Finish Dark Spot Corrector Primer

This isn’t all the makeup I’m wearing today, but it’s certainly my favorite items on my face. I recently bought this primer to even out the dark spots left from blemishes along my jawline and on my forehead. I haven’t been using it long enough to see a dramatic change, but it doesn’t make my face shiny which is positive.

I love the glow I get from this skinfinish. It has tiny flecks of glitter that photograph well, but are very noticeable in person. It teeters towards being a bit 13-year-old-ish but I don’t mind. My 25th birthday is in a month so I need to hold on to some form of youth.

As for the Naked 3 palette, I like it. Some of the colors look the same no matter how you wear them, but they last all day and have great pigmentation. I’ve also noticed less fall-out with these shadows which is typically UD’s downfall.

Have a great Saturday!

Today’s Makeup

Keeping it neutral today with my favorite Urban Decay palette. Spoiler alert: It’s not a Naked palette.

eyes

I was excited to try my new purple eyeliner and it did not disappoint. I rarely like to wear black eyeliner anymore because it can be too harsh. This kohl pencil from Sephora was a total steal for only $8.

lips

This gloss balm is very pigmented, but I only applied a small amount to tint my lips. I’ve been licking my lips a lot this winter and didn’t want to waste a good lipstick. I’m glued to my Nivea lip butter as a back up.

I love my Urban Decay Ammo Palette, and I’m eager to try the Naked 3 palette. Do any of you have it? What’s your review?

Smoked Taupe

I love my LORAC Pro Palette more than all the Urban Decay Naked palettes combined. It has a perfect blend of shimmery and matte shadows, and multi-use shades ranging from neutrals to jewel tones.

I rarely wear heavy eye makeup, so I created this subdued smokey eye using purple, gold, and brown to create a taupe shade.

makeup 1

I applied my Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin (see my review here), and then swept Mauve into my crease and all over my lid. I then patted Deep Purple on my lid and deepened my crease with Sable, making sure to blend the colors until I achieved a nice gradient.

8

I lined my eyes with my Starlooks eyeliner in Obsidian and applied Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara.

10

I finished the look with my favorite MAC lipstick, Creme Cup.

9

I think this a great look for fall for those who want to try a smokey eye but are afraid of dark colors. I love finding new ways to wear darker shadows with glasses that don’t make me look like a raccoon.

What’s your favorite palette to experiment with?
