Smoke circles + current makeup loves

Black and gray, cold and dark like my heart.

Just kidding. Maybe.

Since it’s still too warm to wear true fall clothes (but dropping down to 84 this Saturday, which is basically a cold front in Houston), I’m doing my “summer to fall transition” (lame) with darker makeup.

Clockwise: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lust, Revlon Matte Balm in Sultry, Urban Decay Perversion Mascara, OPI In the Cable Car-Pool Lane

This skinfinish requires a light hand because of the large flecks of red glitter, but is a perfect highlight and/or blush for evening looks. The Revlon Matte Balm in Sultry is a pretty, creamy, pigmented addition to any neutral eye, and looks great against warmer skin tones, such as my Hispanic-ass skin.

I received this sample version of the new Urban Decay Perversion mascara in a recent Ipsy bag, and though I prefer a wand with plastic bristles, this mascara is great at thickening the lash line. However, my stubborn straight lashes fall within minutes, and I’ve noticed it flaking off near the end of a work day. Not cool, UD.

Yaaayyy.

Olives and plums

Still making the most out of my summer wardrobe in a thin military shirt over a well-loved floral dress.

Yesterday’s thunderstorm brought cooler temperatures, but still not enough to justify all the hot pumpkin and cider drinks I want to put in my body. At least I can wear a shirt over a dress and not feel like I’m going to die.

Dotted line

This is a shirt I typically wear to work, and I appreciate its dual functionality as a professional piece, yet simple enough to pair with jeans and a statement necklace.

There’s something about these jeggings that look great in the mirror, but don’t translate well in these pictures. Maybe it’s the angle? I struggled with these photos because I couldn’t get over my magnified thighs. I appreciate their stretch, thin material and everlasting dark wash, but I’m feeling a little betrayed today. Maybe it’s just me. It’s just me.

If you blog, how do you get over insecurities in photos? I figure the best I can do is put them out there, because I know how great I felt wearing the outfit. Maybe it’ll inspire someone else my size to give the tight jeans a try.

Tucked floral + August favorites

I layered a soft chiffon tee over one of my favorite dresses, and belted it in the middle to turn it into a skirt. It was the perfect loose outfit on this annoyingly windy day.

August favorites? Yeah, okay. These are worth mentioning.

FIRST THINGS FIRST. George Watsky’s new album came out in August and has been my workout savior. I don’t know how many times I can mention that I love trying to learn his songs and rap as fast as him, but it’s just so damn fun. “The One” and “Let’s Get High And Watch Planet Earth” are my favorite songs. I can’t wait to see his skinny self in October. Woooo.

NYX Butter Gloss in Eclair. I received this in an Ipsy bag and have been reaching for it every morning for a hint of color. Its buttercream frosting scent turns my lips into two fleshy cupcakes.

I read a lot of YA as inspiration for my own novels. I initially started this one for Go Read A Book, a new book club channel on YouTube. The inner dialogue of the two main characters was insanely accurate to how I felt as a self-conscious 16 year old. Without giving away too much, I enjoyed this unorthodox love story that had an unexpected dark side.

I’ve read quite a few books in the last couple of months, so I’m considering participating in National Novel Writing Month this November to write my own. I completed it last year, and though I don’t think I’ll continue with the book I started, I’m proud of myself for having a living manuscript. So we’ll see.

Gravity, hypocrisy and the perils of being in 3-D

If I can’t wear pants or leggings, I can wear dark colors. I’ve always liked wearing jewel tones because they compliment my skin color and are the next best thing to black. Fall means maroons and plums, and I am not hesitating to add them into my current summer wardrobe as a transition.

This dress is an old favorite. I was so excited when I bought it because I had recently lost 70 pounds and had always dreamed of fitting into a Hollister dress, as sad as that sounds. My teenage brain was convinced that only skinny pretty girls shopped at stores like Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch, but here I am.

Also, if there is a fan club for Revlon Matte Balms, sign me up. These things are heaven sent for lip-licking girls such as myself. “Sultry” is a muted deep rose and oh so creamy and pigmented. I need one in an eggplant shade. Get on it, Revlon.

Taking the heat

We keep it chilly in my apartment at night, so I receive a rude awakening every morning when I step outside to walk the dog and I am slapped across the face by Houston’s slimy heat. I spend the brief moments before entering my hell thinking, “Maybe I’ll wear pants today,” which quickly turns into, “I am ready for death.”

Skirts and t-shirts are the only outfit that keep me from packing my bags and moving to Greenland. Imagine the photos though. Hm.

All AE. I swear I’m not sponsored, I just live at that store.

This is my, “people are walking by and I feel like an idiot so I’m going to pretend to adjust the settings” face.
