Thrift

A few posts ago I mentioned that I was a new user of the shopping app Depop, but I have redirected my allegiance to Poshmark, which is quite similar but a bit more sophisticated in my opinion. I have sold three items from my “closet” during its first month, and I am really enjoying packaging my clothes and sending them off to new homes.

Buuuuuuut I have also been shopping on the app. I justify my purchases by reminding myself that these are great deals and I am earning my money back whenever I make a sale. The Zara Trafaluc dress in these photos was a total steal for only $13. I also bought a new pair of leather Aldo flats for $20. I mean c’mon. I feel like I am just picking things out of people’s closets and leaving a tip.

Click here if you want to check out my closet. Also, be sure to follow me on Instagram to know when I post a new item, and to like, be friends and stuff. I always follow back.

I make sure to only post and sell my nicest, gently worn items, and have received 5 stars and positive reviews on all my purchases. I highly recommend selling your own items on the app if you would like to earn back some cash on clothes you don’t wear anymore. It’s such a great way to clean out your closet and make room for fall clothes.

Deuces.

On repeat

I’ve mentioned it before, but I enjoy blogs who frequently restyle pieces in their wardrobe, and don’t just wear brand new items in every post. It’s much more relatable to see someone wear the same piece but in new ways, which I strive for on this blog. So, same boots and necklace from the other day, but paired with a tribal dress and military button-down for a loose, lightweight look.

Saving for my move to Germany has left me with a limited clothes budget, so I have started selling and shopping on Depop and Poshmark. I’m enjoying the hunt for new to lightly worn items and can’t wait to receive my first order. I kind of wish I had been doing this all along. I’m trying to add new items every week. Check out my shop here.

Did anyone see the blue moon Friday night? I was lucky enough to capture a few photos, while, you know, sipping on a Blue Moon. I keep it real.

Peace.

Saturday.

I am convinced that my legs do not react to extreme temperatures. They do not get cold in the winter and they were completely unperturbed by the jeggings and booties I decided to slouch around in today. However, my upper body is sweat central.

“Any visitors to this site probably don’t want to read about your sweaty summer self anymore, Leah.”

I just can’t stop complaining about the heat. It’s a sickness.

Today I wore this:

I thought about this:

I wish I had started driving sooner than two months ago.
I have more in common with a soon thirteen year-old than most adults.
My dog eats healthier than I do.
Beer tastes so good on a Saturday night.
Sometimes the best things in life aren’t free. Like my imminent life in Germany.

Wear sunscreen and drink a lot of water. Summer is bitch slapping e’erbody out here.

Breaking the rules

I had the privilege of being photographed by Sofia Touassa, an extremely talented and cheery fashion designer who is the brainchild of the brand FPCO Limited. We met on a sunny afternoon at a local park, and explored a Japanese garden that had a dry waterfall. Despite the signs warning us not to enter, I clambered down the rocks and tried my best not to have a serious accident that would make it to the front page of the Houston Chronicle.

Okay, it really wasn’t that difficult, but Sofia snapped photos as I spun and moved around, her instructions and positioning being very new for me, since I shoot my own photos with a tripod, timer and remote. My routine for taking photos is rather methodical, so I am intrigued by the vision of another photographer.

A warm day, a breezy outfit. I am living in t-shirts and skirts this summer, and appreciate the versatility of this accordion skirt. Anything that can take me from the office to drinks with friends and not make me feel like a literal hot mess is a definite win.

Thank you to Sofia for inviting me out in this Houston heat and making me feel like a totally cool blogger.

At twilight.

I recently posted on Instagram that it is impossible to wear jackets in the summer in Houston, but here I am doing it anyway. It’s not so bad when the sun goes down…and when you ignore the bra and back sweat.

This jacket and satchel are two of my favorite items in my closet. I never get tired of wearing them, and they always get compliments. I need more pieces like this. I get sucked into the need to have fast fashion, when I should instead take the time and care to pick items that will survive seasons and trends.

Keep it real.

Wood veins

Yesterday I was featured on Style by Patty’s blog for a guest post I wrote for her “What Style Means To Me” Latina bloggers week. I enjoyed reflecting on my style journey and my insecurities as a Latina woman for the post, and took accompanying outfit photos. Click here if you’re interested.

Look at me wearing heels. This isn’t right.

It is so hot. My waist was super sweaty after taking these photos, but this skirt makes it so worth it. The pattern reminds me of a winter forest, and will transition well into the fall. I look forward to styling it with over-the-knee socks, boots and a sweater. But for now you get my sweaty ass in heels and a black top I haven’t stopped wearing for the past year.

Tschüß.
