Drift + spring makeup picks + update

Oh heeeey.

A lot has changed in my life recently. None of it has been easy, but some parts are wonderful. I have a lot of exciting plans in motion for later this year, many of which I will document on this blog if all goes well.

But for now…..spring. Houston has been such a little delight this season that I almost forgot that it will feel like a damn oven in a few short weeks. I’m not ready for the humidity. I’m not ready for the sweating. I’m not ready to look like a bowl of refried beans.

All of the white.

Spring has been nice to my skin, besides the couple of stress pimples I woke up to this morning. I’ve been using a new BB cream recommended by one of my colleagues, and there is nothing I rather slather on my face now.

From left to right: Tarte Tinted BB Cream, Atelier Cologne in Cedrat Enivrant, MAC Lipstick in Creme Cup and Make Up For Ever Artist Liner in M-10

I saw this cologne in a “free stuff” box at work, and liked the lime, masculine scent. I now smell like a clean man sipping a margarita in Cancún. Aw yes.

As for makeup, I’m totally digging this eyeliner I picked up while I was in New York last week. It’s a great alternative to NARS Via Veneto, and smudges pretty well with a short tapered brush. MAC’s Creme Cup is the perfect nude/pink lip for these hotter days.

So whaaaat, New York? Yes. I was totally there last week. Not only did I get to see a couple of awesome people, I freaking tried oysters for the first time and fell. in. love. Now it’s all I want. I can’t believe I have wasted 25 years of my life not eating oysters. I also had Japanese inspired Mexican food that was as weird and delicious as it sounds.

I also got super touristy and went to the top of the Empire State Building at night. It was so so cold but the view was incredible. My dumb ass self bought express tickets when lines weren’t even that bad, so if you ever go at night, just buy the cheapest ticket and go past midnight.

And of course, I went across the Brooklyn Bridge to Grimaldi’s, which is probably one of my favorite things to do in New York.

And then last night I had the absolute pleasure of having a Little Black Dress themed dinner with a few fellow Houston Fashion Bloggers. I love meeting other bloggers, and am always so amazed by their work ethic and drive.

Phew. Alright.

All in the thighs

I like the look of my jackets being zipped or buttoned to the neck. As someone who doesn’t go shopping regularly, I need to find ways to be creative with my wardrobe, and this is my current favorite way to wear my jackets. See a similar look here.

Over-the-knee socks are tricky for thick-legged gals like myself. I found the best way to get them from rolling past my knee was to pull them as far as they can stretch without much pull, and then folding down a couple inches of the top until it rests on my knee. It’s motivation to keep up my fitness routine, but I still like the look. Very Babymetal inspired, not going to lie.

Thank you for reading, liking and commenting at Morning Ink this year. It means a lot to me.

Alright, I’ll admit that this coat won me over when the description said it was schoolgirl inspired. I’m always down for a uniform look. The toggles above the bust create a nice flare when you leave them clasped with the zipper open. I’m impressed that this coat is 45% wool. Good job, F21.

I compiled other duffle coats I had my eye on (all under $200) in a nifty little Mavatar collection:

Dressed like the copious amount of vodka cranberries I will consume this week.

Happy first day of winter. I have officially spent all my money on Christmas gifts and managed to not buy myself anything but a winter coat, which I think is an exception. My workout regime has already been abandoned, and I have been listening to an embarrassing amount of Christmas music. Tis the freaking season.

One of my main objectives for this blog is to stretch my wardrobe as much as I can to show that you do not need to constantly buy new items to create outfits.

Darker sundresses can become great layering pieces, such as this one from Ruche. It was a flirty, thin dress for the summer, and is now appropriate for fall under a sweater. I may even wear it with my pixie pants and a heavy cardigan and scarf when the temperatures really drop. This is its third time on the blog, why not add a fourth? Functionality. Aw yes.

Keep it real.

I don’t wear this skirt as often as I should. I feel powerful and feminine in this piece, which reminds me of the ocean with its pleats and deep navy color. I just need a dragon and some kind of sweet chest armor.

I’m still in Thanksgiving recovery. I regret nothing.

I should definitely be wearing a jacket in this photo because in an actual stunning turn of events, Houston is so chilly.

This pretty little top was designed by Chelsea from the blog Zipped and is sold through Elegantees. Chelsea quickly became one of my favorite style bloggers after I stumbled across her photos in a Google search for pixie pants. I really like bloggers with an attainable sense of style for the normal working girl, which you will definitely find on Zipped.

So ruffly. So gray. So perfect for this cloudy, cold weather. I can’t wait to wear it with my own pair of pixie pants and a leather jacket.

I would also like to point out that the charms on my bracelet are made out of 12 gauge bullets. It’s good to know that I have friends who see bullet jewelry and immediately think of me. I’m just so hardcore (no, I’m not).
