Today’s makeup

Deluxe samples, yo. They’re basically my window to new products. Bless Sephora and their points program.

Can we talk about how impressed I am with this palette I receive in last month’s Ipsy bag? I usually avoid eyeshadows from brands I’m not familiar with or aren’t raved about on YouTube because I have super sensitive eyes and skin. I once got a stye on my eyelid from bad eyeliner. I live in fear.

Aside from the questionable yellow shade and a couple of the orange colors, this palette has nice neutral, yet shimmery taupe colors that blend so well. Seriously, I think they blend better than the shadows in my Naked 2 palette. Le gasp.

A neutral eye, surprise surprise. But if you look closely, my eyeliner is a blue-ish purple shade. It’s so pretty in person. Ransom is my favorite Urban Decay eyeliner because of how smoothly it glides on, and how it changes colors depending on the light. It looks dark purple in low light, but glows lavender with flecks of blue in the sunlight. It’s gorgeous. I layered it over zero so it would have a dark undertone, giving it a navy look. Ah, I just love it.

What’s your favorite eyeliner? Do you have any purple shades you recommend?

Today’s makeup + disappointing product

My makeup is always the same look achieved with different products. Excuse me for loving a taupe eye and pink lip.

I have sensitive acne-prone oily skin, so finding a trustworthy moisturizer is always a battle. I knew I had found it in one Korean product, but decided to give the Josie Maran Light Argan Oil a try. It was recommended as a great combat for my skin type on the Sephora website, and I’ve been bombarded with articles and videos about the use of argan oil on your hair and skin. So, I pulled the $48 price tag bandaid.

Josie Maran 100 percent Pure Argan Oil Light

Big mistake.

Not only did this moisturizer result in a horrible breakout along my neck, it made my pores more visible and my nose looked like a ripe strawberry against a greasy Cici’s pizza. It was awful. I continued to use it on the ends of my hair and on my face for several weeks hoping it took a little while for my skin to adjust, but no. My skin went completely downhill. After two months of use, I’ve returned to my old favorite.

Holika Holika Water March Moisture Green Full Cream

I found this moisturizer while browsing the adorable site PrettyandCute.com. They sell Asian beauty products that I can’t find in stores and have a large selection of BB creams and skincare products. I had been wanting to try Holika Holika since one of my favorite beauty YouTubers, frmheadtotoe, recommended them. This moisturizer has a fresh scent and a thin film that seals in the witch hazel and Himalayan berry extract. It’s perfect for troubled skin, and will prevent any acne medication from coming off on your pillow at night.

You let me down, Josie Maran. However, I do love the Hot Oil Self-Heating Hair Treatment. So, you’re not completely off my radar.

Have you tried using oils on your face? What is your go-to moisturizer?

Seasons change but people don’t

Alright, we’re all getting bombarded with Valentine’s makeup tutorials in our YouTube subscription boxes and emails from our favorite stores showcasing frilly pink and red dresses as possible date night outfits. We get it.

I like Valentine’s day because it’s another day I get to eat candy. So before you eat a whole bag of heart-shaped Reese’s because they’re 70% off at Target, let’s talk makeup.

I wore this look in last Friday’s outfit post, and I love it. I kept my eyes simple but sparkly and layered on the dark red lipstick, emphasizing my cupid’s bow. This lipstick says, “I buy my own drinks.”

I chose this lipstick as one of my fall favorites, but I love it so much that I wanted to resurrect it for my rebellious bad asses.

I patted “Trick” on my eyelids using my finger, and swept highlight on my cheeks and down the bridge of my nose to bring light to my face.

Are you flying solo this Valentine’s Day or do you have a significant other? My boyfriend and I haven’t made plans yet, so heart-shaped Reese’s are probably my reality. No complaints.

Today’s Makeup

Just a quick today’s makeup. I decided to play with my Sigma Flare palette today since it usually gets buried and ignored under my LORAC Pro and Urban Decay palettes.

From left to right: Cailyn Gel Eyeliner in Purple, NYX Cream Blush in CB06 Diva, Sigma Flare Palette, Maybelline the Rocket Volum’ Express Mascara in Black, Sephora Eyeliner in Tiramisu, Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Naked, NYX Butter Gloss in Tiramisu.

Two eyeliners? What? Yes, my Sephora liner made it into the photos on accident because I couldn’t decide beforehand which one I wanted to wear. I decided on the gel liner because it rarely gets any love.

Neutral eyes, neutral lips. I live on the edge.

Today’s Makeup

I just love wearing pink on my face, okay?!

From left to right: Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette, Covergirl Lipstick in Dazzle, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Lust, Smashbox Photo Finish Dark Spot Corrector Primer

This isn’t all the makeup I’m wearing today, but it’s certainly my favorite items on my face. I recently bought this primer to even out the dark spots left from blemishes along my jawline and on my forehead. I haven’t been using it long enough to see a dramatic change, but it doesn’t make my face shiny which is positive.

I love the glow I get from this skinfinish. It has tiny flecks of glitter that photograph well, but are very noticeable in person. It teeters towards being a bit 13-year-old-ish but I don’t mind. My 25th birthday is in a month so I need to hold on to some form of youth.

As for the Naked 3 palette, I like it. Some of the colors look the same no matter how you wear them, but they last all day and have great pigmentation. I’ve also noticed less fall-out with these shadows which is typically UD’s downfall.

Have a great Saturday!

Today’s Makeup

Keeping it neutral today with my favorite Urban Decay palette. Spoiler alert: It’s not a Naked palette.

From left to right: Sephora Kohl Pencil in Mystic Purple, NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, Covergirl Jumbo Gloss Balm in 215, Revlon ColorStay Foundation in 240 Medium Beige, Benefit They’re Real! Mascara, Anastasia Clear Brow Gel, Urban Decay Ammo Palette, Pixi Bronzer in Subtly Suntouched, MAC Blush in Peachy Keen, Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in 012 Buff Beige, Anastasia Brow Powder Duo in Dark Brown

I was excited to try my new purple eyeliner and it did not disappoint. I rarely like to wear black eyeliner anymore because it can be too harsh. This kohl pencil from Sephora was a total steal for only $8.

This gloss balm is very pigmented, but I only applied a small amount to tint my lips. I’ve been licking my lips a lot this winter and didn’t want to waste a good lipstick. I’m glued to my Nivea lip butter as a back up.

I love my Urban Decay Ammo Palette, and I’m eager to try the Naked 3 palette. Do any of you have it? What’s your review?

Living in Sin

If a makeup artist held an airbrush foundation gun to my head and demanded to know my favorite eyeshadow color, I already know my answer.

Sin by Urban Decay is a shimmery champagne gold color that works great as a base for other eyeshadows or looks stunning on its own. I first tried Sin when I bought the Ammo Palette several years ago, and I have since used up the whole pan. I was ready to purchase a new one until I saw Urban Decay’s new Primer Potion in Sin. A primer and my favorite eyeshadow color in one? Gimme.

I have oily eyelids, so I use the NARS Eyeshadow Base regularly. I bought this primer primarily for the shade, but have been impressed with its staying power. I have been using it for a week and have not experienced a crease in my shadow, even in 80 degree humid Houston weather.

Sin flash no flashIt has made my eyeshadow more vibrant with less application, and my shadow blends without much effort. It’s difficult to cover your lid with a light matte shadow without the shimmer poking through, so I advise using darker eyeshadow if you plan to use this solely as a primer.

Alright, the airbrush gun is against your head now. What’s your favorite eyeshadow color and would you use it as a primer?
